From artist to...lawyer? Or "why I failed that class in decision-making."

Another one of these, sorry.

As a child, did you feel like you were you expected to pursue a certain type of career? How did this make you feel? Did you wind up choosing a different profession or path?

Buncha stuffCollapse )

Writer's Block: No place like home

What are five things you love about where you live and five things that you hate? How does it compare to previous places you've lived?

I don't normally answer these questions of the day, but this one just screams at me to answer it.:P

What makes a place a home?Collapse )
This ended up being really long.:P

Presenting the 13 Original Colonies! (Plus 2 bonus states.:P)

Wow! I can't believe I finished! Here's the pet project I've been working on for several weeks now, in which I attempt to personify all 13 of the original US colonies...

But first, a few notes.
-I'm not the best artist you'll ever meet, but I'm trying every day to get better! I definitely like the way some of these turned out better than others. I know there are some mistakes and anatomy errors, but I hope you'll like it anyway.:)
-Don't take the human names too seriously. I have reasons for most of them (founders, other famous people, places, etc.) but they're not set in stone, obviously.
-Speaking of reasoning, I have reasons for pretty much everything. If it's there, it's probably symbolic of something.
-If I got some facts wrong, please tell me!
-I'm always open to more ideas! If you think I should add something, just tell me!
-I'm from Maryland. This may have influenced my perspective a bit. Also, I'll admit that my fashion sense is extremely preppy and I think that probably comes through a bit, lol.
-More extensive notes are below each state, and 2 bonus states are at the bottom of the page!

Happy Independence Day! Collapse )

Thanks for looking!

Random sketches

I haven't posted art for a long time. I've been trying out  some new things, and I think I'm getting better. Gotta keep practicing!

This really has nothing to do with my states project, although there is a little "screw you" of sorts to the Arizona legislature down at the bottom, lol.

Most of these are just me working on poses and drawing pretty period costumes.:P

It goes newest to oldest.

A preview. Wow.Collapse )

13 Colonies (long ramblings)

For awhile now, I've been working on personifying the 50 States, trying to give them each a face and personality.

My question is at the bottom, so if you don't want to read all my shit, you can just skip on down there.

Blah blah blah...Collapse )

I could always use more ideas, so my question is: Are YOU from one of the original 13 states? (Hell, even if you're not, I don't care) How do YOU think your state should be portrayed? Appearance? Personality? Quirks? Hobbies?

I especially need ideas for New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. And I cannot for the life of me decide how New Jersey should look.

Anything helps, though!

[ART] Political cartoon (Frolicking Politicians!)

One thing that you should know about me is that I'm totally obsessed with political cartoons. I drew this one for my university's international relations journal (for which I'm an editor).

In case you didn't know, Russia and America have recently signed a new START Treaty, vowing to get rid of a bunch of nukes and "promote world peace" and all that good stuff. Despite the fact they'll still each have enough warheads to cause the apocalypse something like 100x over, it's the thought that counts, right?

Obama/Medvedev. I ship it. Collapse )

The Aral Sea- a story

I've been interested in the Aral Sea disaster for several years now, and today I noticed that an article about it is currently featured on Yahoo!News. I've noticed that few people are aware that such a situation even exists, so perhaps Yahoo's feature will raise more awareness.

50 years ago, the Aral Sea was the 4th-largest lake in the world...Collapse )

A day in my life- March 20, 2010

Done for the community adayinmylife.

Today is Saturday, March 20, 2010, and it's my 19th birthday!

I am in Chicago with my mom, and I'm going to give in to my deepest touristy impulses. Join me as I battle snow and ice, scale the great Sears Willis Tower, explore the Chicago Art Institute, and see the amazing Canadian band Great Big Sea in action.

Chicago, the new age, but what would Frank Lloyd Wright say?Collapse )

[MEME] The Decemberists + Great Big Sea

(Got this from a Great Big Sea comm.) The idea is using only song names from ONE ARTIST, cleverly answer these questions, and try not to repeat a song title.
